Local Hiking Info

Hiking information surrounding Eagle River WI.

The Vilas County Tourism and Publicity Website has some great information about hiking in the Eagle River area and beyond.

The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will always have a special place in our heart.  The Luna – White Deer Trail is one of our favorites.

Nearby Oneida County has good hiking opportunities as well. We hiked the Sam Campbell Memorial Trail this winter – it was groomed well enough we could hike in regular boots.

An easy, info at-a-glance, chart of Northwoods trails can be found HERE.  The chart includes whether trails are hike-able, bike-able, and the winter sports opportunities of snow shoeing and cross-country skiing.

If you are looking for a longer, more adventuresome, trek, there are several Wilderness areas close to us.  Stop by The Hiker Box for those last minute necessities and then head out to…

The Blackjack Springs Wilderness

The Sylvania Wilderness & Recreation Area

Headwaters Wilderness

The Porcupine Mountains

Whisker Lake Wilderness

And if you want to get away from it all for a long period of time, Wisconsin has two long-distance hiking trails: The North Country Trail and The Ice Age Trail.
